Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY? Physical Therapy is a conservative treatment option prescribed by your physician to reduce (or relieve) pain and correct dysfunction following an injury, surgery or accident. Treatment, or rehabilitation, may include one or more of the following applications:
WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OT)? Here at CCRC, Occupational Therapy specializes in the treatment of elbow, wrist and hand treatment and how it relates to your everyday life function. An Occupational Therapist or OT will perform evaluations and treatment with the goal of returning you to your prior abilities at home and work. OT can provide valuable training and education on a variety of illnesses and also perform FCEs or Functional Capacity Evaluations to determine your work ability after an injury. WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MY FIRST VISIT? You will be seen by a Physical Therapist (PT) for an Initial Evaluation during which your therapist will perform special tests and take measurements in order to determine your limitations, dysfunctions and weaknesses. The PT then designs a customized program tailored to address your specific needs to rehabilitate and return you to your chosen lifestyle; to include returning to sports activities and returning to work, pain-free. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST APPOINTMENT? We ask that our patients wear comfortable, loose-fit clothing to allow the Physical Therapist to sccess the srea injured for ease of examination. T-Shirts, shorts or sweat pants are appropriate and allow you to move easily, as you may be asked to perform some exercises on your first day. HOW LONG WILL I BE IN YOUR OFFICE? We ask that you arrive 20-30 minutes prior to your first scheduled appointment time to allow time to complete paperwork before you are examined. The initial evaluation generally lasts 1 hour. Therefore, please allow op to 1 1/2 hours for your first visit. Each subsequent treatment session lasts approximately 45-60 minutes at most and depends on each individual's condition being treated. |
